Family & Media
Family & Media is one of Europe’s largest listeners and viewers associations with 22,000 Individual Members and 31 Corporate Members (churches/missions/denominations). One of the goals of Family & Media is to promote Christian broadcasting in Norway and around the world. The association has been instrumental in the development of local FM-radio and a national channel for tv, Frikanalen, serving civil society in Norway. Family & Media owns part of Kristen Riksradio, a national radio initiative serving local radios with Christian programming.
Part of Family & Media also owns an association for parents: Kids and Media (BarneVakten) with members from different faiths and interest groups (www.kidsandmedia.org).
Family & Media aims to represent the interest of its members by taking an active part in public life through media commentaries in the press, radio and TV. Part of this is the involvement in media policy issues in Norway and the European Union.
The Internet Newsletter Nyhetsbrevet is widely quoted in the Norwegian daily and periodic press. You find us on the Web at www.fom.no and www.barnevakten.no

Trans World Radio
There isn’t a minute in the day when Trans World Radio (TWR) isn’t telling someone, somewhere, about the love of Jesus. From humble beginnings more than five decades ago in Tangier, Morocco, Trans World Radio has become one of the most far-reaching Christian media networks in the world.
TWR exists to assist the church in fulfilling the command of Jesus Christ to make disciples of all people. In today’s ever-changing world, TWR is committed to using the latest technology to develop innovative ways to take the unchanging message of the Gospel to people everywhere.
Today, the TWR media network includes partners, offices, studios, and broadcasting facilities in more than 70 countries, airing programmes in over 225 languages and dialects from more than 2,000 outlets around the world; this includes 14 superpower transmitters, a vast network of local medium wave (AM), shortwave, long wave, and FM radio stations, direct-to-listener satellite broadcasts, cable audio systems, and the internet. Through this massive, multi-platform international network, TWR’s broadcasts reach a potential audience of hundreds of millions of people every day in more than 160 countries. In Europe, TWR works with the network of 31 National Partner organizations in 30 countries.
Just as Christ came to us too and met our needs where we were in a way we’d understand, TWR’s programming brings the gospel message straight into people’s homes, cars, and workplaces, speaking relevant truth directly into their lives in ways they understand. TWR is reaching the world for Christ through mass media so that lasting fruit is produced.

ERF Medien in Switzerland
ERF Medien in Switzerland – with 42 employees – is the largest Christian media organization in Switzerland. Since 1973, the purpose of ERF Medien Switzerland is to address the claims of the Gospel as well as discussions about faith issues in radio and TV. The programmes are supplied to local and international stations. ERF Medien produces and broadcasts the TV programme “FENSTER ZUM SONNTAG” and the radio station “Life Channel”.
In Switzerland approximately 20 private stations request radio programmes from ERF Medien on a regular basis. Short clips, reports, portraits and the coverage of current events form part of the range of programmes. Since 1995, ERF Medien – together with its partner ALPHAVISION – produces the 30 minute-TV programme “FENSTER ZUM SONNTAG” on the national TV channel SF2 every week. In October 2005, ERF Medien started the first and only Christian radio station “Life Channel” with a full programme in the German- speaking part of Switzerland, which can be heard via cable network, internet and bluewin TV and, since September 2008, via satellite Astra.
Together with its international partner organization TWR (Trans World Radio), ERF Medien broadcasts programmes in more than 220 languages worldwide. Furthermore, ERF Medien annually produces around 250 German-speaking programmes for the international partner organization ERF Germany. Moreover, ERF Medien Switzerland supports the humanitarian aid projects “Woman of Hope” and “Africa challenge”. ERF Medien is confessionally and politically neutral. The supporting constituency is made up of members of the state churches and a large variety of evangelical churches, and the organization is funded by donations and legacies, sponsorships, advertising and publishing income.
ERF Medien is well established in their programmes with Swiss local radio broadcasters and the national TV channel SF2. About 500 programmes are broadcast annually on local stations and an average of 100,000 viewers watch “FENSTER ZUM SONNTAG” every weekend. It seems that the ERF Medien staff is able to edit the Christian programmes in a way that is of interest and attracts a wide selection of the Swiss population.

EO International
EO and the Public Broadcasting System in The Netherlands are under pressure.
EO moved from Channel 2 to Channel 1, which means that we are going to cooperate with KRO (Roman Catholic) and NRCV (Christian). The profile of the channel will become more important than the broadcaster’s profile, which makes it more difficult for a public broadcaster to characterize herself. Question is if a broadcaster is still identifiable (like EO’s mission).
At this moment EO cooperates with TROS (a neutral broadcaster) with regard to the daily programme on current affairs. One of the results of the move to the first channel is that this cooperation will end and we wil be part of the new (daily) programme on current affairs Netwerk.
Another change is the centralisation of programme acquisitions. At this moment every public broadcaster has its own acquisition department. In the (very near) future there will be only one acquistion department for all public broadcasters. Fortunately EO will have a special position as we are focusing on positive, Christian programmes and we can’t expect others/non-christians to buy programmes on our behalf without knowing what to look for.
It is obvious that EO and the other public broadcasters are facing difficult times. The once so famous public broadcasting system of the Netherlands will undergo a lot of drastic changes. Within 5 or 10 years it will be totally different from what it used to be for many, many years.
