Family & Media

Family & Media is one of Europe’s largest listeners and viewers associations with 25,000 Individual Members and 31 Corporate Members (churches/missions/denominations). One of the goals of Family & Media is to promote Christian broadcasting in Norway and around the world. The association has been instrumental in the development of local FM-radio and owns part of Kristen Riksradio, a national radio initiative serving local radios with Christian programming.

Part of Family & Media is also an association for parents: Child Minder (BarneVakten) with members from different faiths and interest groups.

Family & Media aims to represent the interest of its members by taking an active part in public life through media commentaries in the press, radio and TV. Part of this is the involvement in media policy issues in Norway and the European Union.

The Internet Newsletter Nyhetsbrevet is widely quoted in the Norwegian daily and periodic press. You find us on the Web at www.fom.no and www.barnevakten.no

EO International

EO and the Public Broadcasting System in The Netherlands are under pressure.

EO also moves from Channel 2 to Channel 1, which means that we are going to cooperate with KRO (Roman Catholic) and NRCV (Christian). The profile of the channel will become more important than the broadcaster's profile, which makes it more difficult for a public broadcaster to characterize herself. Question is if a broadcaster is still identifiable (like EO's mission).

At this moment EO cooperates with TROS (a neutral broadcaster) with regard to the daily programme on current affairs. One of the results of the move to the first channel is that this cooperation will end and we wil be part of the new (daily) programme on current affairs Netwerk.

Another change is the centralisation of programme acquisitions. At this moment every public broadcaster has its own acquisition department. In the (very near) future there will be only one acquistion department for all public broadcasters. Fortunately EO will have a special position as we are focusing on positive, Christian programmes and we can't expect others/non-christians to buy programmes on our behalf without knowing what to look for.

It is obvious that EO and the other public broadcasters are facing difficult times. The once so famous public broadcasting system of the Netherlands will undergo a lot of drastic changes. Within 5 or 10 years it will be totally different from what it used to be for many, many years.

All of this - to establish a global witness of Christ through media."

The purpose of ERF Switzerland is to address the claims of the Gospel in Radio and TV. These programmes should assist people to discover faith and to live a life according to scripture.  In Switzerland approximately 20 stations request radio programmes from ERF on a regular basis. Short clips, reports and the coverage of current events form parts of the range of programmes.

ERF together with its partner ALPHAVISION has produced since 1995 a weekly TV programme FENSTER ZUM SONNTAG on the national Swiss Television SF2.

On October 1, 2005 ERF started the first Christian Radio, Life Channel, in the German speaking part of Switzerland. The new Christian Radio broadcasts a wide range of different programmes regarding current events and daily topics. The broadcasts are arranged with programmes true-to-life and cover Short clips, portraits and talk-programmes as well as music and programmes with a counselling focus. The target audience are people from the age of 30 years upwards. But also programmes for children and young people are produced by Life Channel.

All programmes produced according to journalistic rules have the one common objective to discuss issues of faith in public.

 Broadcasting for 43 years

ERF was founded in 1959 in Wetzlar (near Frankfurt) Germany, as a German speaking organisation. ERF Switzerland was founded in 1973. Together with its international partner organisation TWR (Trans World Radio 9 broadcasts ERF programmes in over 200 languages worldwide.

Moreover, ERF Switzerland supports the humanitarian aid projects “Afrika soll leben” (Africa challenge). ERF is confessionally and politically neutral. The supporting constituency is made up of members of the state church and a large variety of evangelical churches. The necessary funding for the operation of the media work approximately 5 Million Swiss Franks are made up from donations and legacies.

Established and attractive

Swiss local radio broadcasters and the national TV channel SF2 appreciate the programmes from ERF. Although the local radio broadcasters were initially sceptic towards religious programmes, today they gladly accept the professionally produced programmes in their broadcast schedule. About 500 programmes are being aired on local stations annually. It seems that the staff of ERF (36 employees and a lot of freelancers) is able to produce Christian programmes which are of interest and attract a broad selection of the Swiss population.
